Midland School, a distinctive co-educational boarding school for grades 9-12, is located on a 2,860-acre ranch at the edge of the Los Padres National Forest. Midland has been a leader of place-based and experiential college preparatory education since 1932. Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

• Teach 2-4 classes across 4-5 sections (TBD but could include classes like: Modern California History, U.S. History, civics/ social science electives, Senior Thesis, etc.)
• Work with Deans to further Midland’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Justice goals
• Coach or lead 2 activity/athletic seasons per year
• Serve as a student advisor and supervise students in a residential setting

*Salary depends on relevant experience; hiring a local employee (who lives off campus, and works only M-F class schedule) is also possible. Benefits include retirement, medical, life/ADD, and disability.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher
• Prior relevant teaching experience
• Highly organized and able to effectively manage time 
• Enthusiasm for working with teenagers
• Outstanding verbal & written communication skills 
• Sense of humor and friendly demeanor
• Ability to pass criminal background & driving tests
• Health clearance for TB screening

Additional Desired Experience:

• Related academic degree (Master’s in Teaching or Social Sciences)
• Secondary school teaching experience, especially with competency-based learning models
• Wilderness Medical experience such as Wilderness First Aid or Wilderness First Responder + trip leading experience
• Experience in boarding or residential education environments
• Other diverse skills and interests to share with our community 
• Rustic living, experiential and outdoor education
