Job Description
Ashley Hall seeks a full-time Substitute Science teacher for grades 5-8. The position is anticipated to begin August 6, 2025, through mid-November, 2025. The candidate will teach Earth Science for the 6th grade and be responsible for an experiential learning session each week to include maintaining a community garden.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
The successful candidate will have a love for teaching and working with 10-14 year olds predominantly, placing them at the center of their learning experience. Such an inspirational teacher must be energetic, enthusiastic, and possess an excellent knowledge and understanding of the subjects they are to teach. The ideal candidate must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference in the lives of our students and embrace the school’s mission and vision.
Major Responsibilities
The most competitive candidates will offer the following qualifications and qualities:
Teaching science in an inquiry-based, experiential, and process-focused approach.
Developing engaging lesson plans designed to foster intellectual curiosity and a love of learning while ensuring any curricular sequence or framework provided by the teacher on leave is followed.
Tailoring curriculum to connect to local geography and environment through interdisciplinary study.
Ensuring creativity and high quality of teaching and learning.
Fostering a caring atmosphere and showing commitment to the well-being and social and academic progress of each student.
Sharing responsibilities for curriculum development, and other departmental and divisional priorities, including trips (national and international).
Acting as an academic advisor for a group of sixth grade students.
Collaborate with other faculty in grades 5-8 to facilitate the transition to the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) curriculum framework.
Key Requirements
Master's degree in Science or in Education, with a major or concentration in a science preferred; a Bachelor’s degree is required.
3 years of teaching experience working with middle grades students; specifically those in grades 5-8 is preferred.
Interest in and proficiency with developmentally-appropriate strategies for teaching middle school-aged children.
Curriculum development knowledge.
Commitment to ensuring high standards of teaching and learning.
Willingness to collaborate and work as part of a team.
