Tampa Prep is currently seeking a detail-oriented and highly skilled Accountant to oversee the daily operations of our Business Office. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting and finance, a commitment to accuracy in financial reporting, and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with a diverse community of parents, students, colleagues, and Board Members.
Major Responsibilities
Establish, monitor, and enforce effective internal controls, especially cash management.
Prepare timely and accurate financial reports, including comparative actual and forecasted reports of operating results, cash flow, financial position, and variance explanations.
Assist the DFO in developing and maintaining accounting policies & procedures and ensure that proper internal accounting controls are in place.
Prepare and review annual audit workpapers related to the School’s annual external CPA audits
Prepare, post and reconcile all investment activity and related accounting entries, and prepare all associated spreadsheets and analysis.
Review, post and reconcile all cash, stock and in-kind gifts from Raiser’s Edge with the Advancement office.
Provide support in the hiring, training and review of Business Office staff.
Manage cash flow and forecast of revenue collection and timing of expenditures.
Prepares all bank deposits and reviews GL coding for all expenditure requests.
Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R and all GL functions. A/R follow-up calls as necessary.
Cross-train on finance functions including student billing, accounts receivable, and payroll.
Function as the data source for the School DFO in response to requests for financial information by Board Committees.
Assist with the preparation of the annual budget.
Prepare month end closing journal entries and reconciliations.
Prepare all periodic surveys and compliance reports for various school industry organizations (NAIS, INDEX, Commonfund, NBOA, etc.)
Meet regular and timely attendance requirements, including occasional evening, weekend, and other required events
Additional duties as assigned by the DFO and/or Head of School.

Required Skills and Qualifications
BA/BS or equivalent in accounting.
Minimum of 5-7 years’ experience in accounting.
Strong proficiency with Excel, Office and other computerized accounting systems is required.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience in an independent school or higher education setting.
