This seasonal, part-time position is responsible for leading the Thayer Academy Girls Lacrosse program. This includes promoting a culture and practice of excellence and sportsmanship consistent with the philosophy and policies of Thayer Academy and the program’s long history of achievement. The head coach is responsible for all aspects of the program including student recruitment, managing practices and games/championships, supervising assistant coaches, communicating with families and the Thayer Athletic Department, and supporting student-athletes in the college recruitment process.
Thayer Academy seeks qualified Middle School, Head, and Assistant as well as Upper School JV and Varsity level coaches for the Spring ‘25 season which runs from approximately March 24th through May 24th.
Middle School:
Practice Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 2:30- 3:45 pm.
Games occur on Tuesdays or Fridays with no commitments on Saturdays
Upper School:
Practice Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 3:30 -6:00 pm.
Games occur on Wednesday and Saturday at variable times
No JV practices or games on Friday
Roles & Responsibilities
Represent Thayer Academy as a role model and coach
Plan and lead daily practices and weekly games with a focus on skill development, game strategy, respect, sportsmanship, and character development
Cultivate a positive team culture emphasizing teamwork, resilience, and strong moral character
Travel with the team on the bus to all games/practices
Responsible for management of all Thayer Academy equipment following practices and games
Ensure that all student-athletes are picked up following practice and games
Effectively communicate with parents, coaching staff, athletic department, and campus security
Qualifications and Skills
At least 3 years experience coaching at the appropriate school level
Experience designing and implementing daily practice/game plans
CPR/Heads up! Certification
Daily communication with Thayer Athletic Staff
Adherence to all Thayer Academy and Athletic Department Policies & Practices
History and practice of exemplary sportsmanship and role modeling appropriate behavior with student-athletes
Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills, including a cooperative, professional, and collaborative work ethic
Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging
Physical Demands
Occasional lifting and moving equipment, running, stretching, throwing and jumping
Frequent talking, listening, walking, sitting, standing, and movement on the field and track
Ability to perform multiple concurrent tasks and function in a fast-paced working environment
Work Environment
The Athletics facility is a busy work environment in which there is a significant amount of personal interaction.
The Coach must be flexible, enthusiastic, hard-working, and responsible.
The track is the main practice facility but may include the field and Alumni gymnasium. Must be able to adapt to different surfaces in each location and work outside in heat, cold, wind, rain, and snow/sleet in early spring
Must have a valid driver’s license
