Full-time, 1.0 FTE, 12 months, Exempt (Annual Salary Range $70,000-$95,000)
Barnesville School of Arts & Sciences seeks a dynamic senior administrator to join our leadership team in the capacity of Assistant Head of School. As a key advisor, the Assistant Head works strategically with the Head of School to maintain congruency between the School’s board approved mission statement and all activities for both divisions.
In general, the Assistant Head acts as an educational leader of the school, is the lead administrator when the Head of School is absent, is a visible presence in all areas of the School, works toward a resolution of problems as they arise, and keeps the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and challenges of the School.
Student related duties include:
Assisting with the interviewing and evaluation of student applicants
Encouraging, guiding, and counseling all students and their parents
Providing academic guidance to students and maintaining complete and up-to-date academic records on all students
Overseeing the grading, reporting standards, and records for all students along with the grading and reporting standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
Establishing guidelines for proper student conduct while maintaining student discipline consistent with School policies
Staff related duties include:
Directing the activities of the School’s instructional staff
Observing, supervising, and helping evaluate faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; supervising the teaching process; and reviewing/evaluating academic programs
Making recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and the assignment of faculty
Establishing programs for the orientation of new teachers; for in-service training of all teachers, and for the evaluation of classroom teachers; ensuring that teachers are familiar with and adhere to School policies in all areas of the School operation
Serving as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods, and general school procedures
Overseeing the professional development budget and activities for teaching staff
Collaborating with classroom teachers and maintaining open and timely communication with parents
Planning and leading divisional meetings
Programmatic
Lead communicator for each division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed
Leads curriculum development in the articulation of the School’s mission, department goals, course objectives, materials, methods, and means of assessment
Institutional
Contributes to providing a positive, supportive, and enriching learning environment
Maintains awareness of educational, physical, social, and psychological needs of the members of our school community and develops plans for meeting those needs when/if appropriate
Ensures we are maintaining regulatory educational standards compliant with local county and state government agencies
Assists in leading school accreditation and self-study processes including participation with the accreditation visiting teams for AIMS
Oversees the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs of the School; assists in the planning and the presentation of School assemblies and programs; maintains a comprehensive calendar of school events ensuring the entire School community remains informed of various School programs and activities
Prepares the master School class schedule assigning teachers and students to classes and other obligations
Orders all grade level books each school year
Participates in the student admissions process
Supports the School’s activities by being present at school-wide events
Serves on Committees of the Board as appropriate
Knowledge and Skill Set Requirements: Bachelor’s degree required, master’s preferred. Other requirements include demonstrated classroom teaching experience; demonstrated senior leadership experience as a relational leader skilled in fostering partnerships, skilled at deescalating and calming down tense situations using effective communication and active listening; the ability to maintain strict confidentiality; strong verbal and written communication skills; understanding cross-cultural competences with demonstrated knowledge around diversity and inclusion work; an effective delegator who is organized with a strong ability to multi-task; and a passion for student centered learning with an enthusiasm for the School’s mission. Fluency with technology in general, specifically MS Office Suite, is a must. Experience with Blackbaud a plus.

Physical Requirements: Daily desk work including computer time; as part of daily routines, mobility around a campus with uneven pavement and managing stairs; standing, bending, and squatting as required; lift/carry boxes up to 15 pounds; frequent walking inside and outside as part of general job duties.
