The senior accountant (SA) makes over 90% of the monthly journal entries. S(he)prepares and reconciles spreadsheets to back up the trial balance (for use by the business office and the auditors). S(he) is responsible for most of the cash management at N&G, including wire and internal transfers and bank account reconciliations. S(he) books the monthly journal entry for department expenses charged to the N&G credit card. The SA works closely with the Development Office to record monthly gifts. The SA is the liaison for the Upward Bound program. The SA will need to gain overall knowledge of many business office functions, including A/P, A/R, and payroll so s(he) can back up those positions.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Assist with the monthly closing process by preparing and recording journal entries. Analyze and reconcile more complex Balance Sheet accounts, identifying and resolving discrepant items.
Management of various cash accounts; including setting up or releasing wire transfers, bank reconciliations, and petty cash.
Maintenance of the Nobles credit card account including updating card holders, and limits, assisting users with monthly expense reports, reviewing and correcting coding errors to ensure the classification of expenses is correct and the report is complete.
Reconcile gifts with the development team and resolve discrepancies on a monthly basis.
As the liaison for the Upward Bound program, manage our relationship with UMASS and oversee the budget and billing process.
Assist with preparations for the annual financial audit by delivering required documentation and responding to inquiries as needed.
Implement new accounting policies and processes to meet changing requirements and support new business initiatives.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills Required for Position
Accounting degree and/or 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a similar setting.
Demonstrate a high degree of integrity and confidentiality.
Communicate thoroughly, accurately, and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
Good organization skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Self-starter and motivated team player.
Excellent computer skills with a strong working knowledge of Google Suite applications as well as Excel.
Familiarity with accounting software (Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT a plus).
