Job Description The role of a Business Manager, particularly when acting on behalf of the Chair, is crucial in managing the non-academic administrative functions within a department. Here are the key responsibilities and duties typically associated with this role:
Overseeing Administrative Functions: The Business Manager is responsible for managing all non-academic administrative tasks within the department. This includes ensuring efficient day-to-day operations, budget management, and compliance with departmental policies.
Coordinating Administrative Staff: Collaborating with the Chair, the Business Manager helps oversee and coordinate all administrative staff. This involves delegating tasks, setting priorities, and ensuring that the administrative team functions cohesively.
Hiring: The Business Manager may be involved in the recruitment and selection of administrative staff. This includes creating job descriptions, conducting interviews, and making hiring recommendations to the Chair or relevant authorities.
Discipline and Conflict Resolution: Addressing personnel issues and conflicts is an important aspect of the role. The Business Manager may be responsible for initiating disciplinary actions or conflict resolution processes when necessary, following departmental and institutional policies.
Training and Development: Providing training and development opportunities for administrative staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Performance Evaluation: Conducting regular performance evaluations to assess the effectiveness of administrative staff. Performance reviews help in identifying areas of improvement and recognizing outstanding contributions.
Handling Personnel Issues: On behalf of the Chair, managing all personnel matters, including grievances, complaints, and HR-related issues. This may involve working closely with the Human Resources department or appropriate offices to address concerns.

Master's Degree
