The Shipley School seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Middle School French Teacher to work with our existing Languages Department. This will be a part-time exempt position reporting to the Head of Middle School beginning August 15, 2023.
Major Responsibilities
Teach three sections of Middle School French
Act as an advisor and be committed to playing an active role in MS.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must:
Share a deep passion for French
Have experience teaching French to middle-school students (Grades 6, 7, 8) and command of appropriate L2 strategies
Have experience in immersion-based teaching (90% + target language) and appropriate L2 strategies
Demonstrate the ability to execute lessons using authentic resources, games, and songs
Demonstrate knowledge of Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) techniques and engage multiple modalities so that students can retain information
Have experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and work to create a supportive atmosphere and rigorous academic program in which all students will thrive.
Demonstrated competence in applying global diversity perspectives to language instruction
The ideal candidate will possess the following:
Maturity, collegiality, flexibility, humor
Excellent speaking and writing skills
3-5 years teaching experience preferred
BA in Education or related field; (MA in French, Foreign Language instruction or a related field not required but preferred)
Knowledge of Spanish would be a wonderful addition
Superior level of proficiency in French
