Accountant/Finance Office Assistant

Dwight-Englewood School is seeking a general Accountant /Finance Office Assistant to begin as part-time in May 2023.  This position will likely become full-time in July 2024 depending on the strengths, experience and performance of the candidate. Primary responsibility of this team member is general accounting while supporting all functions of the business office.

• Record journal entries and monthly reconciliation of payroll related accounts, including but not limited to, payroll, 403b contributions, healthcare and other benefits.
• Reconcile 941s to payroll reports and the general ledger.
• Annual preparation and filing of Forms W2 and ensure compliance with requirements for filing.
• Year end audit responsibilities including account reconciliations and workpapers related to payroll expense, taxes and benefits accounts, accrued and prepaid expenses, other year-end responsibilities as needed.
• Provide monthly budget reports to various departments.
• Provide general accounting and business office support to the Controller and to the CFO
• Perform other accounting functions and administrative duties as may be assigned as necessary for this position.

Qualifications:

• 3 years’ experience in general accounting using a computerized accounting platform or 1 year experience with a degree in Accounting.
• Knowledge of accounting principles, concepts, transactions, internal controls, prepaid expenses, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, account reconciliation and monthly closing process
• Experience and understanding of processing payroll strongly preferred.
• Experience with ADP a plus.
• Experience using accounting software to record general ledger transactions required.
• Knowledge of Blackbaud FE NXT general ledger strongly preferred but not required.
• Excellent computer skills with experience using excel and creating and maintaining complicated spreadsheets.
• Superb attention to detail and strong quantitative, organizational and analytical skills required.
• Must have a strong work ethic, exhibit professionalism and the desire to be part of our team.
• Customer service oriented with the ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
• This is an exempt position. 18 hours per week through June 2024. This position will likely become full time in July 2024.
• Additional hours may be required over the summer for audits
• This is an on-campus position and COVID-19 vaccination is required.
