POST DOCTORAL ASSOCIATE POSITION
THEORETICAL ASTROPHYSICS
UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE
The University of Tennessee is seeking candidates for a post-doctoral research associate to be appointed in the Department of Physics & Astronomy in the research group of Prof. Sherwood Richers. The appointment is scheduled to begin September 1, 2023, though an earlier appointment is possible. Richers' research group is presently focused on theoretical modeling of neutrino transport and quantum kinetics in core-collapse supernovae and neutron star mergers. We strongly interact with the Nuclear Astrophysics group at UTK (Mezzacappa, Hix, Steiner), N3AS, NP3M, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (Endeve, Messer), and the ExaStar Collaboration.
We are seeking a candidate who will contribute to the monumental task of (1) understanding the microphysical processes and instabilities present in explosive astrophysical environments (2) determining how these processes interact with dense matter, magnetic fields, curved spacetime, radiation, and nucleosynthesis in multiple dimensions, and (3) developing models that serve as robust predictions of multi-messenger signals and tests of fundamental physics.
