Emergency/Critical Care Coordinator

The University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine, invites applications for the position of Emergency/Critical Care Coordinator. This position serves as a liaison, coordinates, communicates, and provides administrative support to the Emergency/Critical Care (ECC) service. Interfaces with the ECC service, client services and other hospital services. May provide information to the clients waiting to be seen or during the treatment/hospitalization phase of the visit. Assists with patient flow. Ensures administrative duties of the ECC service are accomplished. Provides Veterinary Assistant duties as needed, including patient restraint, help with patient treatments and triage.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Ensures patients are attended to in a timely fashion.
• Performs telephone communication with clients.
• Answers incoming inquiry ER phone calls and directs calls appropriately.
• Updates patient status as directed by the ECC clinicians or nursing staff.
• Provides communication with clients regarding financial obligation status.
• Submits various requests such as imaging, clinical pathology, clinical consults, anesthesia, etc.
• Enters daily patient charges. Audits patient charts to capture omitted charges.
• Communicates with receiving services regarding transfers and other logistics.
• Ensures patient records are complete and all required forms have been filled out.
• Facilitates discharge of patients by ensuring discharge instructions are complete and the final bill has been processed with client services.

• Performs duties of a Veterinary Assistant as needed, including patient restraint and assisting with patient treatments and triage.
