JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Principal Investigator this position will perform specialized research duties focused on metabolic studies (in vivo / in vitro) study design in animal models of disease, and metabolic disorders (e.g. diabetes, obesity, and cancers) and be able to specially design protocols that meet the needs of individual projects and goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Conducts and works independently on basic science research projects involving metabolic analyses.
2. Performs analytical protocols / techniques (qualitative and quantitative analyses) and processing of biological samples for targeted, semi-targeted, and screening metabolomics-metabolic, lipidomic and specific proteomic assays involving various advanced high-resolution GC/ LC MS instrumentation platforms.
3. Designs and implements research protocols that fits the needs of the PI/ users and collaborators and ensures that protocols is followed and quality controls (QC's) remain valid.
4. Assisting in hiring and oversight of staff, students and trainees.
5. Assist in the development and validation of novel extraction and MS protocols that target the needs of collaborators / core users and investigators, including novel assays, such as those for metabolomics/lipidomics and related studies involving biological informatics.
6. Establishing / performing mass spectrometry (MS) quality controls (QC) and standard operating procedures (SOP's) for individual assays on a routine basis.
7. Conduct routine MS maintenance and coordinate advanced repairs with MS contractors as needed.
8. Establish, perform, optimize, and maintain all MS assays using QC procedures.
9. Performs other duties as necessary.
