Description
This 2nd shift supervisor position is responsible for providing and maintaining clean campus facilities. Responsibilities include the supervision of all 2nd shift custodians and custodial building supervisors, inspecting the quality of work of employees, unlocking certain campus buildings, ordering and maintaining custodial supplies for buildings in this area of responsibility, transporting equipment, washing dust mops, certain aspects of pest control, floor maintenance including stripping and waxing floors, and training new employees. This position also supervises fogging for C0VID in buildings as requested, as well as training other employees in proper and safe use of the fogging equipment. This position must also have strong computer skills to ensure all custodians complete their online testing in a timely manner. This supervisor's role will be required to take down tables and chairs and to do a general cleaning of the facility after the event is over. The supervisor is responsible for returning to the normal routine of cleaning with other custodians to complete the cleaning process of buildings.
This is a working supervisory position. Standards will be to clean the buildings to APPA level 3 pushing level 2 cleanliness.
Supervision of a crew of custodians:
* Schedule/prioritize work tasks for 2nd shift employees
* Inspect employee's work for quality, accountability, and efficiency
* Handle work performance issues for 2nd shift - verbal and written warnings; consult Manager and/or HR as needed
* Conduct staff performance reviews annually
* Make hiring recommendations for 2nd shift custodians
* Transport equipment between buildings
* Supervise the fogging for C0VID in classrooms and public areas of buildings as requested
* Train new employees on proper use of cleaning chemicals as well as how to operate custodial equipment, how to strip and wax floors, and general floor maintenance. Have pre-shift meetings with staff to discuss additional duties.
* Execute building evaluations monthly.
* Ensure that the staff has completed all testing on time.
Supervision and training of custodial crew who perform cleaning duties to meet the APPA standards:
* Pull trash and clean white boards - pull trash and recycle out of all offices, classrooms, restrooms, hallways, and entrances clean whiteboards nightly in all classrooms
* Clean bathroom fixtures, toilets/urinals, sinks, mirrors, floors, and partitions. Deep clean bi-annually or during breaks (fall and spring or summer)
* Change light bulbs as needed in buildings every night
* Train custodians in light bulb and ladder safety
Supervision of custodial crew who perform floor maintenance duties to meet the APPA standards:
* Stripping and waxing floors/ extracting carpets
* Dust mopping and wet mopping spots daily and scrubbing weekly
* Extracting carpets as needed and vacuuming daily
* Training custodians in proper floor maintenance
* Clean APPA level 3 pushing level 2 cleanliness
Manage inventory of custodial supplies for crew
* Place request for needed supplies and disperse to buildings as needed. Make recommendations for equipment and supplies purchases
Supervision of custodial crew who perform during and after special events
* Many campus events such as ballgames end at night. These set-ups must be taken down before the next day's classes
* The supervisor must build a rapport with their crew to get the job done efficiently
* Responsible for leading custodial crews on snow days to clear the entrances to the academic buildings on campus
* Responsible for leading custodial crews when water infiltrates buildings on campus at any time or any day
