Chief Finance and Operations Officer
Belmont Day School seeks a strategic thinker, responsible for leading the financial, business, operational, and human resources affairs of the school. This person will work with the head of school and board treasurer in establishing fiscal policies and procedures and ensuring achievement of financial objectives. We are looking for an innovative and results-oriented individual skilled at working in a fast-paced environment. The CFOO works closely with the head of school, director of operations, and serves as a member of the senior administrative team.
This is a full-time, exempt, and benefit eligible position. It is a twelve-month position and reports directly to the head of school. The position also has reporting relationships with the board of trustees, the finance committee, the investment committee, the buildings and grounds committee, and the audit committee.
Responsibilities
Drives the strategic planning process by maintaining and advancing existing financial models to achieve overall business objectives in collaboration with the head of school and business manager.
Manages the budget and forecast process, collaborates and obtains input from all relevant stakeholders with support from the Business Manager.
Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with financial and accounting policies and procedures.
Oversees the maintenance of the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll and year end annual audit process.
Responsible for the review of audited financial statements with support from the Business Manager. Presents final audited financial statements to board, audit, and finance committees.

Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure that personnel and financial information is secure and stored in compliance with current legislation.
Oversees all payroll functions to ensure that employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner andensure that all payroll tax and reporting compliances are met.
Develops strategy for and manages investment, endowment, and cash management activities.
Oversees banking relationships, cash and debt management, and investment of operating cash, reserve funds, and endowment all aspects of the Tax-Exempt Bond Issue.
Oversees the administration of the operations activities of the school including facilities management, capital projects, food services, transportation, summer programs and nursing staff.
Oversees the administration of the human resources activities to the school, including but not limited to compliance, policy management, hiring, performance management, and benefits and compensation.
Collaborates with the tech department to evaluate systems and to adopt industry best practices to streamline and integrate business and financial functions.
Manage the online enrollment process in collaboration with the tech department and registrar
Participates on relevant school committees. Performs data analysis, and prepares and reports on statuses and trends to key constituents. Makes recommendations for improvements.
Supervises the Business Manager, HR manager, and the director of operations. Additionally, fosters and manages relationships with vendors, auditors, etc., hired in support of business operations oversight.
Oversee risk management
Engages with students routinely by providing coverage at lunch, recess, and dismissal, or as needed.
Performs additional responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and 8-10 years of relevant work experience, experience working in an independent school preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of management level experience with a track record of motivating and mentoring staff in achieving goals.
Experience overseeing both finance and operations personnel and activities.
Adept knowledge of finance and accounting principles.
Demonstrated understanding of legal issues, compliance, and risk management
Demonstrated expertise in forecasting, financial modeling, and financial analysis and reporting.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong relationships with multiple constituencies.
Demonstrated project and risk management skills with the ability to analyze complex issues, to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations.
Demonstrated organizational agility, and ability to innovate and lead change.
Demonstrated ability to negotiate and influence effectively.
Strong team player that has a customer service approach and is solution-oriented.
Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work individually, within a multidisciplinary team, as well as with external partners and vendors.
