Founded in 1961, Sandy Spring Friends School is a progressive, coed, academically-rigorous day and boarding school serving approximately 600 students from age three through 12th grade. The campus is located on 140 acres in the historic Sandy Spring area of Montgomery County, Maryland, and the School is approved by the Maryland State Board of Education and accredited by the Association of Independent Maryland Schools.

Upper School Long Term Substitute Theater Director and Acting Teacher
Summary: An Upper School Theater Director and Acting Teacher for the first semester of the 2022-2023 school year. Responsibilities will include one acting class and directing a play in the Fall of 2022. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching and directing in a high-school setting. The acting teacher will co-teach the established acting curriculum for a one semester acting class for students in 9th to 12th grade. This long-term substitute position runs from August 15-January 31.
The Theater Director teaches an additional class which will culminate in a performance. Responsibilities include: selecting a piece for the fall, rehearsing (during the school day), collaborating with the Theater Technical Director and designers, and coordinating strike. This role includes evening and weekend responsibilities.
Qualifications: An excellent candidate will have extensive experience doing theater with high school age actors. The ability to collaborate with other artists is essential. Familiarity with Quaker education is preferred but not required.
