About Kents Hill School
Located in central Maine, Kents Hill School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school supporting students from 9th grade through Academic Gap Years. The student body is comprised of 180 students from Maine, the United States, and around the world. Since 1824, Kents Hill has been providing transformative experiences rooted in the power of community, character, and core values. It is the 30th oldest boarding school in the United States and one of the oldest continuously operating coeducational college preparatory schools. Students at the school benefit intellectually and personally from the unique 4-dimensional (4D) academic curriculum framework that infuses four key elements into each course: knowledge, skills, character, and reflection. This framework isn't limited to the classroom; it extends to a student's life in the dorms, on the athletic fields, and through leadership opportunities and community engagement.
Situated just three hours from Boston and one hour from Portland, the idyllic, 400-acre campus is nestled in the midst of the Belgrade Lakes and provides sweeping views of the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. State-of-the-art facilities including the... $6.5M Bibby and Harold Alfond Dining Commons, Joanne and Dick O’Connor Alpine Training Center, and Bodman Performing Arts Center, which provide the ideal setting for the community to live, learn, and enjoy an active outdoor lifestyle.
At Kents Hill, a student’s success is not measured solely by test scores or college acceptances, but also by the relationships that they build and the opportunities that they have to experience, develop, and live by a set of core values. The impressive college preparatory program focuses on the individual and supports each student to reach their fullest potential. Illustrative of this commitment is a dedicated Character Department, Four-Dimensional (4D) Academic Curriculum, and Academic Coaching program where teachers trained in academic coaching deliver personal, empathetic, and innovative learning experiences.
Kents Hill School is at a pivotal moment in its almost 200-year-old history. Chris Cheney, the 20th Head of School, has a clear educational vision, a global perspective, experience at both traditional boarding and international start-up schools, and a strengthened focus on developing the whole student through a balanced, intentional, and purposeful curriculum.
