Overview: The Director of Dining Services is responsible for the oversight of the preparation and serving of all meals, oversight of the day-to-day operations of the dining department, and ensures superior standards of food preparation, service, sanitation, and safety.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for the oversight of all dining service functions and operations, including food production and service, customer service, operating policies, procedures and systems; menus and meal plans; catering and special events, budgets, hiring, staffing and management, and purchasing and inventory.
Plan and oversee health and safety programs, and ensure that all applicable work health and safety procedures are followed.
Provide excellent customer service to a diverse population of students, faculty, and staff.
Conducts training programs and staff meetings.
Responsible for evaluation of staff job performance, staffing needs, work schedules, and overtime budgets.
Plan, request, and administer all department operating budgets.
Establish and implement procedures to enhance the quality and cost-efficiency of food production and service.
Plan menus that provide options for a healthy diet and variety to accommodate special dietary needs.
Provide guidance and collaborate with campus members designing menu offerings and event setup for various campus events.
Ensure compliance with various external regulations and guidelines pertaining to food preparation and overall foodservice operations.
Work with a wide range of outside vendors, suppliers, service contractors, including negotiating contract terms and prices; and with government inspectors.
Stay abreast of industry trends and attends professional conferences.
Actively participates in DEI professional development opportunities.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor’s degree is preferred plus prior experience in a progressive management role in dining/hospitality.
Strong leader who can manage a diverse workforce, build teams, ensure superior customer service.
Possess exceptional management skills, including communications, training, finance, planning, and organization skills/
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Knowledge of state and federal nutritional guidelines.
Must be able to work the evening and weekends shifts, as needed
Knowledge of international cuisine strongly preferred
Good sense of humor
Must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs., work environment temperatures vary from the front of the house to back, the environment can be loud, must be able to stand for long periods of time, must be able to bend, reach, repetitive hand motion
This position is a full-time, 12 months, exempt, salaried position. Some weekends, holidays, and evenings required. Full benefits.
