Woodlands Academy is seeking a part-time Athletic Director for the 2021 - 2022 academic year. The Athletic Director will report to the Principal and join a highly collaborative, innovative, and experienced faculty. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee, plan, and direct the physical education program and all athletic activities for the school, as well as dynamic leadership, vision, and direction for campus-wide athletics, physical fitness, and health education. Dedication to the independent school setting is a must. Maintain Woodlands’ strong athletic program and responsible for ensuring the health and safety of all students in the athletic program
Represent Woodlands Academy in the IHSA and ISL and at various regional and state athletic competitions and associations
Work with the Leadership Team to continue to innovate and develop a strategic vision for athletics at Woodlands Academy
In collaboration with the principal and the physical education faculty, evaluate and advance the physical education and health curricula
Schedule all athletic contests including securing transportation and game officials
Attract, hire, and supervise qualified coaching staff for all athletic programs
Develop and provide appropriate training guidelines and materials for coaching staff, ensuring that all coaches understand the philosophy and mission of Sacred Heart education
Ensure that all coaching staff have required current CPR, first aid, concussion protocol training and certifications
Plan, coordinate, and oversee all school athletic activities including, but not limited to, team sports, summer athletic camps, awards ceremony, and other athletic events that the school may hold
Coordinate and disseminate information regarding athletic practices, contests, and activities to school personnel, students, and parents as needed
Report athletic achievements for both individuals and teams to the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and maintain accurate records of team and individual statistics
Oversee the distribution, collection, cleaning, repair and storage of all athletic uniforms and equipment
Work with the Facilities Director to ensure that school grounds meet athletic needs and the proper maintenance and security of all athletic equipment, athletic facilities, fields, and courts
Coordinate and purchase all athletic awards and organize team sports photos
Prepare, submit, and administer a budget each year to fund the athletic programs of the school
Weekly, review academic standing of athletes to determine eligibility
Engaging in the life of the high school (presence at assemblies, meeting, events, etc.)
Participating in school-wide, departmental, and mentor team meetings
Coach at least one sport
Commit to understanding and upholding the values of a Sacred Heart education
Perform all other duties, as assigned
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in physical education or a related subject matter. Master’s Degree is preferred
Minimum 2 years’ experience in an athletics-related role in an educational environment
Successful background working with student athletes and coaches
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and empathetic approach
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
The ability to build positive relationships with high school students; a powerful student mentor
The ability to draw people in for collaboration, curriculum development, and problem-solving; a trusted and sought-after colleague
High-level of familiarity and competence across cultures and multiple perspectives
Genuine understanding or willingness to learn/understand the culture, community and the demands students feel on a daily basis
Familiarity and competence in technology skills
Superb communication skills and excellent verbal/written skills to collaborate with Student Support Team, parents, students, and faculty
Possess strong people skills in order to be empathetic to the needs of students and parents
A willingness to be an active, enthusiastic member of the WA community
Completion of Virtus: Protecting God’s Children training
Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks
