Headwaters School, a Pre-K through grade 12 independent day school serving 450 students across its three campuses in Austin, TX, is seeking a Controller for the 2021-2022 academic year. This position will be 30 hours per week and benefits eligible.

The Controller will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance and Advancement. The Controller should be experienced in all aspects of financial management, including non-profit, partnership and corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.
3+ years of overall combined accounting and finance experience, nonprofit organization preferred
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
Experience with financial statement preparation for all types of legal entities
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process and consolidations
Experience in preparing and review of partnership, corporate, payroll and non-profit tax filings
Experience with non-profit, educational, and property management organizations preferred
Experience with various accounting software administration, Quickbooks strongly preferred
FASB and GAAP experience required
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
Excellent attention to detail
Essential Job Duties:
Works closely with Accounting manager to ensure accuracy in accounting
Reconciles financials with the Business Office
Ensures compliance with accounting procedures
Prepares monthly and annual financial reports and budgets
Ensures accuracy in billing and revenue reporting
Manages the annual budget and works with department managers to ensure compliance
Responsible for writing enrollment contracts, ensuring financial aid awards are accurately represented in contracts
Supports financial audit and 401(k) audit process, as well as 990 filing
Assist with general business office functions, including AR, AP, and Payroll as needed
Other duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Finance and Advancement or Head of School.
