Shipley School seeks to bring to its community a new Director of Athletics, to start in July of 2021, who will serve as a key leader of the School. The Athletics Director will work in close collaboration with the other members of the Central Administrative Team and the three division heads (Lower, Middle, and Upper) the faculty and staff (referred to collectively in the Shipley lexicon as "colleagues") while also reporting to Head of School, Michael Turner.
Founded in 1894 and coeducational since 1972, Shipley currently enrolls 800 students, 381 of whom are in the Upper School. Located on a beautiful split campus with outstanding and extensive facilities in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, Shipley is an integral part of the vibrant Greater Philadelphia independent school educational environment and sits adjacent to the campus of Bryn Mawr College
Under the leadership of Head of School Michael Turner (completing his second year), Shipley is energized, inspired, optimistic, and organizing to compete vigorously in the Philadelphia independent school market. Shipley has made a firm strategic commitment to its unique definition of educational excellence, which holds that student achievement is inextricably linked to individual and collective well-being. Athletics specifically, and physical education more broadly, sit at the heart of this commitment as they blend all three of these elements: achievement, individual well-being, and collective well-being. With this foundation, Shipley is poised to build on its history of success and transformational education and to take exciting steps into its future. The new Director of Athletics will be a critical leader in this undertaking, engaged in both the further articulation of the institution's strategic vision and the effective implementation of its initiatives and priorities.
