Westmark School is currently seeking Summer Reading Intervention Teachersexperienced in teaching the mechanics of reading to students in grades 2 - 9 following a Structured Literacy program. As a Reading Intervention Teacher, you will organize and implement an instructional program that will capitalize on student strengths and target specific needs in accordance with Westmark School’s mission.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our reading intervention teachers are required to follow the established safety protocols such as practicing social distancing, hand sanitizing and wearing a mask. Teaching may occur in the distant learning environment over Zoom or in-person on campus. Westmark School follows CDC and LADPH COVID-19 guidelines.

Teaches students with language-based learning differences
Plans, implements and follows a structured reading curriculum
Submit weekly lesson plans to the Summer SMARTS Director and Reading Coordinator
Integrates grade appropriate technology into the curriculum by following best practices
Maintains class PowerSchool page
Uses behavior management systems that are effective for students with distinct learning styles
Provides a positive environment that encourages students to actively participate in their own learning
Utilizes data to drive instruction
Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and the community
Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education or related field
Advanced degree or credentials in Education, Reading Specialist or Educational Therapy certification preferred
Certification in a Structured Literacy program such as: Orton-Gillingham, Lindamood-Bell, Slingerland, or Wilson Reading
Documented experience implementing a Structured Literacy program in small groups or in a reading remediation clinical setting
Strong desire to work with students with language-based learning differences
Proven track record of successfully working with young and adolescent children
Knowledge of multi-sensory teaching methodologies
Experience with technology- iPads, PCs and SmartTechnologies
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis
Ability to identify and help students make marked improvements
