Job Summary:  The K-6 Division Heads is a member of the senior administrative team, shapes the culture and spirit of the division, leads student life, and must connect with young people.  The K-6 Division Head works closely with teachers and administrators in the areas of academics, advising, discipline, faculty development, and evaluation, and counseling.  S/he leads the consistent operation of the Lower and Middle School and orchestrates the success and wellness of students. 

Duties/Responsibilities:

• To maintain congruency between the school’s board-approved mission statement and all activities of the Lower and Middle
• To serve as the educational and administrative leader of the Lower and Middle School, responsible for its day-to-day operation, including managing the budget, maintaining accurate student records, coordinating events, and serving as a professional development resource around best practices in support of the school’s vision
• To promote and foster diversity, equity, and inclusion by helping to create an environment that respects individual differences and the particular abilities and strengths of each student and teacher
• To balance a focus on faculty development (pedagogy, curriculum, culture) with one on the student experience (connection, communication, culture)
• To collaborate with the other division heads and the head of school to create a coherent and unified student experience across all divisions
• To oversee the development and implementation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in grades K – 6
• To provide clear and frequent communication with parents/guardians, colleagues, and students
• To promote high standards and expectations for academic performance, faculty and student leadership, personal integrity, and community responsibility
• To observe, evaluate, and supervise all Lower/Middle School faculty
• To collaborate with the Head of School and the Upper School Head in the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty
• To maintain the budget for the division
• To actively celebrate the school community by attending concerts, games, plays, etc.
• To ensure practices and policies of the Lower and Middle School align with and meet accreditation standards and to assist in all accreditation processes
