The Shipley School, founded in 1894, is a co-educational, college preparatory, independent day school currently enrolling 835 students in grades Pre-K through 12. Summary: The Director of Rowing will build a sustainable premier rowing program for the Shipley School. The incumbent will enjoy an expansive opportunity of developing student-athletes while inspiring the larger Shipley community to enjoy a lifelong activity. This will be a 12 month position. Responsibilities: - Serves as the Head of the entire rowing program for grades 6-12, and coaches at the varsity level.
- Develops training programs that include monitoring practices and skill development
- Supervises the maintenance of existing equipment in accordance with manufacturer's schedule. This includes general upkeep of equipment and timely communication with the AD and Associate AD
- Coaching Responsibilities
- Fall - scaled down competition
- Winter - indoor after school offseason training
- Spring - full competition season
- Expose Middle School students to rowing through the Physical Education curriculum and learning programs
- Depending on the growth of the program - may include teaching or other responsibilities on campus
- Responsible for the scheduling and entry of all races
- Ensuring that all travel arrangements are made in accordance with all school standards. The Director will be expected to drive groups as needed.
- Instruct and demonstrate skill sets and techniques necessary for development and athletic achievement in the sport of rowing, from beginner to elite athletes
- Ensure a positive environment free of hazing, harassment, bullying and intimidating language and behaviors - aligned with our Community Commitment
- Recruit student athletes of all ages for application to Shipley
- Recruit and evaluate coaches for the rowing program with the assistance of the AD and Associate AD.
- Prepare and maintain the annual budget and manage expenditure of all purchases and spending for the rowing program
- Establish a year-round rowing academy/club including, but not limited to clinics, lessons, and camps.
- Effectively collaborates with the Marketing and Development departments to actively promote the sport and relevant fundraising campaigns.
