Position Summary The CFO is accountable for the administrative, financial, and risk management operations of GRACE Christian School, to include the development of a financial and operational strategy, metrics tied to that strategy, and the ongoing development and monitoring of control systems designed to preserve GRACE assets and report accurate financial results.
The CFO shall oversee the functions of accounting, audit, and budgeting, as well as establish formalized processes and controls for accounting related functions. The CFO is also responsible for coordinating and assisting in the preparation of financial reports, such as statements of activity and balance sheets, in addition to other special reports that may be needed. The role is a supervisory role within the Finance Office and reports directly to the Head of School.

Planning • Assist the HOS in formulating the GRACE’s future direction and supporting tactical initiatives. • Monitor and direct the implementation of HOS’s strategic business plans. • Develop financial and non-profit status strategies. • Partner with the Board Treasurer to set agenda and lead Board Finance Committee • Manage the capital request and budgeting processes. • Develop performance measures that support the GRACE's strategic direction. Operations • Manage the accounting, human resources, investor relations, legal, tax, and treasury departments or functions. • Participate in key decisions as a member of the ELT (executive leadership team) • Maintain in-depth relations with all members of the ELT. • Oversee the financial operations of any subsidiary entity operations. • Manage any third parties to which functions have been outsourced. • Oversee the GRACE's transaction processing systems. • Implement operational best practices.
General Accounting & Financial Reporting • Responsible for managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate and timely financial information. • Establishing and monitoring formalized accounting policies, processes, and controls. • Communicating accounting policies to affected employees and ensure compliance with such policies. • Reviewing all account reconciliations on a monthly basis. • Preparing monthly financial statements including Statement of Cash Flows for use internally and for reporting to the Board of Directors. • Supervising general accounting operations and General Ledger management. • Ensuring timely, accurate payment of debt service and management. • Providing support in the hiring, training of accounting/Business Office staff. • Personally review and approve all Form 990 and other federal or state requirements. • Oversee the issuance of financial information. • Oversee employee benefit plans, with particular emphasis on maximizing a cost-effective benefits package. Cash • Supervising all incoming cash receipts and deposits. • Maintaining daily cash balances and reviewing bank statements/activity monthly. Debt & Treasury Function • Reconciling debt annually. • Ensuring accounts are funded in accordance with bank requirements/debt covenants. • Facilitating monthly and annual debt payments.
• Assisting in communication with the bank regarding fees, debt covenants, and re- financings, including quarterly calculations and reporting.
• Reconciling investment accounts and assisting with the management of investments and communication with investment institutions. Audit • Taking a lead position on the preparation of schedules and work papers for annual audit (school and 401k plan). • Maintaining permanent office files for all audit schedules prepared by the school. Risk Management • Understand and mitigate key elements of the GRACE's risk profile. • Monitor all open legal issues involving the school, and legal issues affecting private education. • Construct and monitor reliable control systems. • Maintain appropriate insurance coverage. • Ensure that the school complies with all legal and regulatory requirements. • Ensure that record keeping meets the requirements of auditors and governing authorities. • Report risk issues to the HOS and board of directors • Maintain relations with external auditors and investigate their findings and recommendations. Funding • Monitor cash balances and cash forecasts. • Arrange for debt financing. • Invest funds.
Third Parties • Participate in the communication of GRACE’s financial and operational health to the GRACE community. • Maintain banking relationships. • Preparing all periodic surveys and reports for the school’s trade organizations. • Preparing other similar data as requested. General • Shall seek to role model in attitude, speech, and actions as consistent with a daily walk with Jesus Christ. • Shall follow the Matthew 18 principle in dealing with students, parents, staff, and administration. • Shall support the broader program of the school by attending extra-curricular activities as requested. • Shall know the procedures for dealing with issues of an emergency nature. • Shall contribute to the general improvement of the school program. • Shall refuse to use or circulate confidential information inappropriately. • Shall perform any other duties which may be assigned by the Head of School. • Shall demonstrate the character qualities of enthusiasm, courtesy, flexibility, integrity, gratitude, kindness, self-control, perseverance, and punctuality. • Shall meet everyday stress with emotional stability, objectivity, and optimism. • Shall respectfully submit and be loyal to constituted authority. • Shall maintain a personal appearance that is a role model of cleanliness, modesty, good taste, and in agreement with school policy. • Shall be an effective communicator in written and oral communication. • Shall recognize the need for good public relations and represent the school in a favorable and professional manner to the constituency and general public, including in the use of social media. • Shall place the ministry of GRACE Christian School ahead of outside or volunteer work. • Shall make an effort to appreciate and understand the uniqueness of the community. • Having accepted Jesus Christ as personal Savior, shall affirm publicly, and have a lifestyle consistent with GRACE’s Statement of Faith and the GRACE Mission, Vision, and Core Values. • Must adhere to work hours that are set to perform the required job function. • Attends and participates in scheduled campus and/or school meetings as needed.
The employee shall be one who has received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The employee shall be a member in good standing of an evangelical church and shall lead a separated life. The employee shall reflect the purpose of the school, which is to honor Christ in every class in every activity.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or relevant discipline, Master’s Degree or MBA
Minimum of 8 years' experience in the finance area and managing a team.
Strong financial and accounting background, including an understanding of profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow management, and general finance and budgeting.
Minimum of 3 years’ experience with Independent Schools and non-profit accounting preferred.
Other qualifications may be added by the Head of School as deemed appropriate.
