This position manages the areas of finance, research proposals, employment, and office support for the centers within the HPC2 umbrella. This position provides supervision to the HPC2 Business Office staff, as well as supervision of the HPC2 Business Office support located at Stennis Space Center.
The HPC2 is an umbrella organization comprised of seven research centers. The centers are supported by a central business staff. This position supports and oversees activities for the Geosystems Research Institute (GRI), Northern Gulf Institute (NGI), Center for Computational Sciences (CCS), Center for Cyber Innovation (CCI), Institute for Genomics, Biocomputing & Biotechnology (IGBB), and Alliance for Systems Safety of UAS through Research Excellence (ASSURE). This position serves as the backup for the Director, Business Operations at HPC2.
The following examples are intended as illustrations of the various types of duties assigned. The absence of specific statements of duties does not exclude those tasks from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of the position.
1. Manages the daily financial activities of the unit, which include budget preparation and control, accounting, purchasing, and business planning and management; ensures compliance with university policies and procedures, state, and federal regulations. May approve payments of purchases for sub-units. 2. Audits and Reconciles financial records for accuracy, availability of funds, and conformance to university and departmental policies and procedures. 3. Coordinates the preparation of monthly financial reports/forecasts to Principal Investigators, Center Directors, upper administration. and various funding agencies. Provides analysis and presents recommendations for changes and/or improvements for adherence to budgets. 4. Oversees financial aspects of research proposals, contracts, and sub-contracts, including the development of budget, proposal preparation, and adherence to funding requirements; serves as a liaison with university administrators, state, federal, and private funding sources. 5. Supervises personnel, which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance. 6. Assist Director, Business Operations with preparation of annual operating budget 7. Manages salary support for all personnel working with management to strategize on individual workloads and funding coverage. Coordinates and processes personnel actions. 8. Develops or assists with the development and implementation of policies and procedures consistent with those of the organization to ensure efficient operations of the business office 9. Works closely with management providing support and guidance in the operations and oversight of IGBB and GRI's Service Centers. Manages financial records to ensure compliance with policy and profit/loss margin. 10. Serves as back-up to the Director, Business Operations 11. Performs related duties as assigned.
BS in Management, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and at least three years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities listed above.
