Department Summary: BSU Aviation Science trains students under the supervision of experienced instructors and aviation professionals, positioning them for success in careers both on the ground and in the air. Flight training is conducted at the BSU Flight Training Center located at New Bedford Regional Airport in New Bedford, Massachusetts. Students pursue a Bachelors degree with concentrations in Aviation Management or Flight.
Position Summary: The Aviation Business Manager provides critical financial planning and oversight for BSU Aviation/Flight Operations and is the primary financial and business leader for the Aviation Science department. This position reports to the Chief Instructor and works cooperatively with the Dean's office in the Ricciardi College of Business.
Tour of Duty: Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. (Subject to change) (Saturday and Sunday as days off)
This is a full-time, 12-month APA position and is subject to the terms of that union agreement.

Essential Duties: In conjunction with BSU Administration and Finance staff this position: • Develops the BSU Flight Operations annual budget. • Communicates regularly with RCOB Dean regarding budget creation and disbursements. • Oversees and manages the departmental budget. • Oversees capital expenditures (e.g. facility, aircraft, and simulator upgrades). • Oversees and negotiates all Flight Training Center contracts. • Oversees the fleet maintenance and fueling contracts. • Oversees all Pro Card expenditures for departmental credit cards. • Assists Flight Operations Administrative Assistant with IT projects and needs. • Works cooperatively with Flight Operations staff to develop and conduct efficiency. • Conducts monthly department budget review of all revenue and costs. • Conducts appropriate annual professional development activity. • Performs other duties as necessary to achieve program goals and objectives.
Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree. • Prior experience in budget development and management. • Evidence of strong administrative, verbal and written communication skills. • Ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential information. • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain harmonious working relationships.
Preferred Qualifications: • Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.) • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office. • Working knowledge of Banner systems. • Knowledge of higher education principles, practices, and procedures. • Demonstrated marketing experience. • Aviation / flight training operations experience.
