The EA provides direct executive support to the HOS and serves as the primary point of contact for students, parents, faculty/staff, and members of the Board of Trustees. The EA must enjoy working in a Quaker mission-driven environment that is fast-paced and customer service oriented. A combination of administrative, personnel, public relations, hospitality, and clerical skills are essential for creating a welcoming atmosphere that allows the Head of School’s office to be productive and responsive to the community.
Duties include a broad variety of administrative tasks for the HOS including: managing an extremely active calendar of appointments; arranging complex and detailed travel plans; planning and executing HOS-sponsored events, itineraries, and agendas; greeting visiting guests; completing expense reports; supporting the Administrative Council and the Board of Trustees, including various Board committees; coordinating annual data surveys; and distributing annual employment contracts. Some weekend and evening hours will be required.
It is essential that the EA possess an awareness of and attention to matters of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Further, it is expected that the EA will play a key role in supporting the HOS and the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in their work to advance DEI initiatives at the School.
Acting as a positive and thoughtful ambassador for Sandy Spring Friends School, the ideal individual will exercise sound judgment in a variety of situations; perform multiple tasks effectively; possess very strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail; develop relationships across the SSFS community; handle delicate situations and confidential matters with discretion; adapt to numerous competing demands while demonstrating the highest level of service and response; and serve as a forward looking thinker who actively seeks opportunities and proposes solutions.
Bachelor’s degree desirable. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, and Power Point), G Suite, and other productivity tools, as well as 2-3 years of senior administrative experience required.
Physical Requirements: The ability to navigate stairs as part of daily routines; mobility around a large campus with uneven pavement; bending and squatting as required to participate in activities; lifting/carrying boxes up to 25 pounds; and the ability to maneuver as necessary within a regular office setting.
