St. Christopher’s seeks a knowledgeable, organized, and proactive individual to join the Business Office team as an accountant. The Accountant is primarily responsible for the transactional accounting of both St. Christopher’s School and St. Christopher’s School Foundation. This position is responsible for processing a high volume of transactions coming from multiple areas of the organization. The ideal candidate should have effective organizational and time-management skills, and exhibit a high degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality while meeting time-sensitive deadlines. He/she will be an integral part of the Business Office team and will work closely with Business Office and Development Office personnel.
The Accountant will handle the cash receipts for the School and Foundation. This includes making electronic deposits and journal entries associated with the School’s student billing payments, miscellaneous monies/checks, and credit card payments received through electronic payment gateways. He/she will respond to the Accounting Manager regarding any questions associated with the reconciliation of the School’s revenue and receivables.
The Accountant will participate directly in the maintenance of the Foundation’s accounting by completing daily cash deposits and journal entries, monthly bank reconciliations, quarterly reconciliations of recordkeeping between the Development Office and Business Office systems, and regular internal reporting.
This position maintains the Parents Association bookkeeping in QuickBooks software, processing cash receipts and reimbursement requests as submitted by the School’s Parents Association liaison.
The Accountant will be involved in certain areas of the accounts payable process, including reconciliation of petty cash, printing checks, and maintaining accounts payable records in accordance with the School’s document retention policies. He/she will also perform certain payroll processing tasks as directed by the Human Resources Manager, including monthly benefits reconciliations.
These areas of responsibility culminate in the preparation of deliverables requested by the external auditors of the School and Foundation, thus contributing to a successful annual audit process and timely audited financial statement reporting.
Finally, the position is expected to perform other duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager or Business Manager/Director of Accounting.
Qualifications & Key Skills:
Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
1-3 years prior accounting work experience, preferably with a non-profit
Knowledge of general accounting principles, not-for-profit practices, and regulatory standards
Proficiency in Excel
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge and QuickBooks is preferred
Effective listening, verbal and written communication skills
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
