Shady Side Academy is a diverse and inclusive school community that seeks a strategic, highly innovative finance and operations leader to support its mission and serve as its Chief Financial & Operations Officer (CFOO), effective July 1, 2020.
Reporting directly to the President and working closely with Board of Trustees, the CFOO will play a crucial role in shaping both the Academy’s culture and strategic vision for the future.
The CFOO is the School’s principal finance and business officer, charged with the effective stewardship of the school’s financial resources, ensuring efficient deployment in support of the School’s mission and strategic goals. The CFOO is responsible for all of Shady Side’s financial functions, including budgeting, accounting, long-range financial planning, treasury management, investments, asset management and liability management.
The CFOO also oversees the school’s overall operations, including facilities and grounds, educational technology, food services, safety and security, summer programs, and auxiliary services. Additionally, s/he will establish and direct a human resources department and the Academy’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) committee.
As a critical member of the President’s leadership team, the CFOO serves as a key partner and advisor to the President and Board of Trustees, including serving as the chief staff liaison on the following board committees: Executive, Finance, Audit, Endowment, and Buildings & Grounds. To further this work, s/he will utilize expertise in strategy, establish community partnerships, identify new opportunities for revenue, and develop solutions that inspire both financial vitality and improved organizational performance.

A strong strategic orientation and track record of effective partnership with diverse teams;
Demonstrated expertise in strategic financial planning, investment management, debt financing and management;
Proven track record in implementing innovative processes and systems;
An established background in campus or facilities master planning;
Proven track record building a culture of analytics for data-driven insights; a change agent committed to excellence
Change Management Skills:
Experience leading organizational transformation and managing change;
Experience recruiting, developing, and retaining a high-performing team;
Organized, with the ability to implement systems and processes whilst retaining the flexibility required to manage effectively in an organization that is undergoing growth and change
Highly self-motivated and self-managed—requires little direction outside of goals;
Leads by example; as an individual contributor and inspirational leader;
Not willing to settle for conventional wisdom versus optimally effective solutions;
Is able to bring the best out of employees and colleagues;
Excellent communications skills, including negotiation, influence, and presentation skills;

Salary is competitive with area independent schools and commensurate with experience. Excellent health and retirement benefits are part of the employment package. Lunch is included when school is in session. Funding exists to support continuing education and professional development.
