National Cathedral School (NCS) seeks an assistant director of communications whose primary role will be developing video content and other visual communications that tell the school’s story and advance strategic priorities. The successful candidate will produce work that compellingly conveys NCS’s unique character and how students, faculty, staff, and alumnae live out the school’s core values. The assistant director will be equally comfortable producing quick-turnaround projects and longer-term, high-impact communications, knowing there will be ample opportunity through the year for both. The assistant director reports to the director of communications.
Identify visual stories that satisfy the needs of current parents, prospective parents, alumnae, faculty/staff, and other friends of the school.
Develop those ideas into compelling short-form videos for the school website and social media channels.
Ensure that NCS’s visual representation in official print and digital communications meets strategic objectives, with particular attention to inclusivity, brand, and spiritedness.
Create, organize, and maintain a searchable database of video footage and photography.
Photograph school events.
Identify freelance videographers and photographers who can assist in the creation of distinctive materials, and successfully manage working relationships with them, including by creating and meeting production schedules and budgets.
Support the communications department as needed in fulfilling its mission to provide high-quality visual and narrative content, compelling storytelling, and clear and consistent information.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field.
Minimum of three years of relevant professional experience.
A high level of proficiency with video- and image-editing software. (NCS uses Adobe Creative Suite: Premiere Pro, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.)
Experience and skill with photography.
Experience and skill managing multiple deadlines and a complex calendar of assignments.
Strong interpersonal skills that allow the establishment and development of solid working relationships within a diverse community.
Availability to work, on occasion, during school events on evenings and weekends and, during the winter, in the early morning to announce snow closures or delays.
Ability to engage in physical work, including bending, stooping, reaching, and remaining upright and still for an extended time as well as lifting, carrying, and/or pushing at least 30 pounds.
