The College of Arts and Sciences seeks a Business Manager to work closely with the Budget Director of Arts and Sciences and the department heads of Classics, Religious Studies, and Philosophy, as well as the Directors of the Tennessee Humanities Center and MARCO to coordinate the control and administration of the financial, HR, and administrative operations of these departments, including oversight and management of events in these departments, particularly those aspects requiring financial management. In addition to having full authority for specific fiscal and human resource related matters for these departments, this position also has responsibility for oversight of sponsored projects accounting for the Humanities Division (Classics, English, History, Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures, Philosophy, Religious Studies), as well as the Tennessee Humanities Center and MARCO. This position will have supervisory responsibility for three staff positions within the Humanities Division, with each position housed within Classics, Philosophy, or Religious Studies.
As Business Manager for the above named departments, this position is responsible for oversight of daily financial operations in these units, assuring policy compliance in all financial transactions. This position is responsible for review and approval of the work submitted by three staff members working with the named Humanities departments. This position is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget for the specified departments, as well as for oversight and management of the departmental budgets throughout the fiscal year. This position has oversight for sponsored grants and contracts, approving submissions processed by the Humanities Grants and Contracts Coordinator. This position reviews and approves personnel transactions for faculty, staff and students within the constituent departments, coordinating searches for faculty and staff hires, verifying that offered salaries can be supported by departmental budgets. This position will coordinate the promotion and tenure process for tenure-track faculty, as well as the promotion process for lecturers. This position will coordinate graduate student appointments, ensuring that salaries do not exceed the departmental budgets and that there are fee waivers available for all offers made on centrally-funded accounts. This position will oversee and manage departmental events (conferences, lecture events, etc.) for Classics, Philosophy, and Religious Studies, managing funding for events and participating in event planning sessions, providing guidance on matters related to finances, contracts, and accounting for expenditures, as well as ensuring event advertisements comply with University branding requirements. This position is the primary resource regarding financial and human resources policies and procedures for the named departments, and is responsible for overseeing policy compliance and training for faculty, staff, and students within the departments.
