Under the direction of the Business Manager 2, the Business Manager 1 – Recreational Sports is responsible for procurement and management of the general ledger and subsidiary accounting ledgers relating to Student Life Recreational Sports and the Student Wellness Center; serves as general systems administrator and manager of subsidiary accounting ledgers; supervises professional staff; prepares journal entries and fund transfers for Student Life fiscal support staff and other university actions documents; reviews, audits and approves procurement transactions; ensures all business-related policies and procedures of university and Student Life are fully implemented; ensures compliance with unit, Student Life, University, State and Federal fiscally-related laws, guidelines, rules, internal controls, policies, and procedures; reviews and monitors revenue and expenditures used to prepare financial reports to support management decisions and strategic decision making; conveys and manages highly sensitive information while maintaining the utmost confidentiality; prepares, analyzes, interprets, and presents data for special projects and ad hoc reporting; generates financial reports and tracks/communicates fiscal status to unit; ensures fiscal resource management staff maintain appropriate files and documentation retention schedules; completes and/or reviews financial reconciliations; provides oversight for administrative and operational processes; performs financial analysis for decision making; initiates continuous improvement ideas to streamline work; reviews and approves transactions and provides approved transactions to appropriate Student Life fiscal support staff for entry; assists in department efforts to develop data plans and provides analysis to support department strategic decisions; assists and trains staff; provides a high level of customer service to staff, Rec Sports members and students, to ensure requests are completed timely, efficient, accurate and in compliance; serves as a resource to staff, Rec Sports members and students regarding financial policies and procedures; analyzes data and provides financial summary reports for all associated general ledger accounts to account managers and Business Manager 2.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, or equivalent combination of education and experience; knowledge of accounting principles and applications; experience with organizational budgets, accounting systems, reporting, and analysis; working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and the Web; successful completion of a background check.
MBA; 1-3 years of business management experience, including supervisory experience; good oral and written communication skills; working knowledge of PeopleSoft reporting.
Target Salary: $55,000.00 - $63,000.00 Annually
