The Controller is responsible for all accounting, bookkeeping, and financial record keeping activities for the School. He or she assures that all activities are performed professionally and in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The Controller reports to the Director of Finance and Operations. This is a full-time, exempt, twelve-month position that is eligible for benefits. Campus housing may be available.
Preparing general ledger journal entries, including: investments, gift receipts, pledged donations, student billing, fixed assets, loans, interest rate swaps, inventories, event registrations, Auxiliary Programs, cash receipts, and other adjustments
Conducting monthly and quarterly soft-close and close of general ledger accounts, and performing reconciliation procedures
Monitoring the School’s endowment investments and capital position, and making corresponding quarterly entries into the general ledger to record endowment-related changes and activities
Undertaking loan covenant testing and reporting
Coordinating and preparing documents for annual financial and 403(b) audits
Identifying changes in GAAP that require adjustments to internal controls in order to improve efficiencies, record keeping accuracy, and ongoing compliance with FASB regulations and financial statements
Maintaining accurate records of restricted donations, receivables, and net assets, and making appropriate general ledger entries to release restricted gifts
Managing accounting transactions for Auxiliary Programs, including reporting revenues and receivables, and reporting year over year financial analyses
Performing all payroll and employee benefits functions including bi-weekly payroll processing and reporting, on-boarding and off-boarding, and open enrollment
Maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business or other related field. A minimum of five years’ related experience in a required. The ideal candidate will have familiarity with independent schools or non-profit organizations. Candidates should be experienced users of Microsoft Excel, Google Suite, and payroll systems and have a high level of comfort learning and using new technology. Previous experience using Blackbaud is preferred.
The Controller must have excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail. He or she should be adept at problem solving and working independently and must be able to handle confidential information with discretion. The Controller must be able to interact effectively in a culturally diverse community of parents, students, faculty, and staff and be able to communicate financial concepts to a range of audiences.
