Indian Creek School is an independent coeducational day school offering a broad curriculum in the liberal arts. Founded in 1973, Indian Creek School enrolls approximately 550 students in grades Pre-K through twelve from diverse ethnic, racial, religious, and economic backgrounds.
This position is a full-time, exempt, 12-month staff position who reports to the Director of Business and Finance.
Prepare and manage the annual budget, and assist with multi-year financial plan and all data related to the school’s financial sustainability
Assist with strategic financial analyses including enrollment, flexible tuition, and sustainable financial model
Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports for the Head of School, Finance Committee and Board of Trustees
Oversee monthly and quarterly reconciliations of the school’s financial statements; prepare investment account reconciliations
Lead the preparation required for the annual audit and preparation for required tax filings
Assist with the collection and reporting of benchmarking data to NAIS, AIMS and Maryland State Department of Education on an annual basis
Deal with sensitive personal and business information in an environment that demands absolute and complete confidentiality
Assist Head of School and other members of school administration with a variety of complex projects
Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements: The Controller should demonstrate proven abilities to multi-task, see complex projects through to completion, and a willingness, if necessary, to undertake the most basic tasks to be of service to the school, its employees and students. The Controller must be able to work collaboratively and harmoniously with peers in an educational setting; to be flexible in adapting to growth and change; to be constantly and independently pursuing improvements in business and operational efficiencies and must maintain a positive attitude and sense of humor. The Controller must be able to effectively represent the interests of the school to outside vendors and constituents in an aggressive but professional manner and must be comfortable with and able to use (or quickly learn to use) a wide range of technology, database and computer applications to accomplish important tasks. Systems thinking, detail orientation and a high standard for quality and error-free work is a must. Federal and State background clearance is required for this position.

Ability to use Microsoft Office applications. Advanced knowledge of Word (mail merges) and Excel (for budgeting and tracking) required. Familiarity with Blackbaud, Haiku, learning management platforms, website and phone system interfaces helpful but not required.
Ability to perform accounting and financial reporting tasks.
Ability to quickly master new computer application skills and comfort with a wide range of web-based applications.
Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a variety of settings and with a wide range of people. Ability to interact and collaborate with a wide range of personalities and internal and external customers
Ability to write and present information in a clear, professional and concise manner.
Office environment with no secretarial/administrative support.
School buildings and grounds with variable temperature and noise levels.
Operate office equipment – extensive keyboarding.
Read handwritten documents and other records or reports.
Exchange information in person, via electronic mail or on the telephone.
Sitting and using a computer for extended periods of time.
Some light lifting, carrying, bending.
Ability to maintain confidential and positive working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, school and community organizations, vendors, and the general public.
Applicant Requirements. Bachelor’s degree and more than 7 years-experience in business operations or management, preferably in a school environment, required. CPA preferred but not required. Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously, to work independently without administrative support, excellent communications skills (written and oral) and strong interpersonal skills required. Business writing and presentation sample required. IT training, coursework or experience preferred.
