The Controller is a key contributor to internal and external financial reporting and assists the Director of Finance in driving the month-end, and year-end close process. The Controller applies US GAAP principles and assists the Director of Finance in reviewing journal entries and account reconciliations; provides critical analysis of changes in account balances; assists in project implementations; assists in year-end audit preparation; assists in supervising, training, and mentoring a team of 3 – 5 accountants; and supports the CFO/COO and Director of Finance in executing the vision for Greenhill School’s Business Office.
Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for the month-end close process that includes preparing budget to actual variance analysis with explanations for differences.
Day-to-day oversight of A/R, Payroll, and A/P.
Responsible for reviewing and approving journal entries and ensure that transactions are posted correctly and timely.
Assist the Director of Finance in the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets and forecasts working with other administrators and department heads concerning budget performance.
Actively stay current on new regulations in GAAP and relevant non-profit accounting issues.
Participates in the development of effective and efficient accrual methodologies for key accounts.
Responsible for balance sheet and select income statement reconciliations.
Providing weekly reports to the Director of Finance.
Preparation of financial statement support for auditors.
Manage all merchant accounts for online payment.
Create efficiencies in the accounting and reporting process.
Assist the Director of Finance in mentoring, training and developing Accounting staff consistent with the vision of Greenhill School.
A. Education • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (minimum) • Certification: CPA preferred
B. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities • Strong knowledge and understanding of US GAAP. • Strong technical knowledge with ability to identify key accounting issues and apply correct treatment under US GAAP. • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. • Strong mentoring skills. • Exceptional communication and presentation skills. • Exceptional organizational and time management skills. • Proficient knowledge with Microsoft Office products to include Excel, Word and Outlook. • Strong composition skills with experience in documenting policies and procedures. • Ability to train, develop, mentor and supervise staff. • Ability to manage multiple projects with varying requirements and deadlines. • Ability to adapt easily to fluctuating priorities.
C. Experience • 5-7 years progressive accounting experience • General Ledger system conversion experience a plus
WORKING ENVIRONMENT: • Normal office conditions.
