Reporting to the head of school and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the chief operating and financial officer provides leadership and management to ensure that The Bishop’s School has the proper operational controls, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to guarantee the School’s financial strength and operating efficiency. This person will oversee approximately 50 employees through six direct reports: the controller, the human resources compliance manager, the director of facilities, the director of food services, the director of childcare services and the administrative assistant. Specific duties include:
Serving as a high-level strategic advisor and partner to the head of school on fiscal, facilities, property and administrative matters.
Providing counsel to the board of trustees with regards to finance, investments, audit & risk, faculty compensation and facilities, and serving on the ad hoc strategic planning committee and others as needed.
Directing and managing the School’s general business function, including budget preparation, financial reporting, accounting, payroll, general ledger, payables, receivables, investments, insurance, coordination with legal representatives and human resources.
Overseeing the general supervision of transportation, buildings, grounds, housekeeping, food services, security, bookstore, reception and childcare services.
Playing a lead role in long-range planning, facilities planning and energy conservation, including creating financial and operational models that balance current reality and future aspirations.
Ensuring that technology is integrated into the business office and the School’s operations in a way that optimizes effectiveness and allows for the accurate and timely reporting and analysis of financial and operational data.
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with faculty, staff and parents, and cultivating an ethic of high-quality customer service among staff members.
Partnering closely with the advancement office to guarantee the thorough reporting of all gifts to the School and with the admissions office in the determination and distribution of financial aid.
Collaborating with peers at other independent schools across the state and the nation in order to share best practices and to stay abreast of relevant topics and trends in the field.
Maintaining integrity, honor, responsible citizenship and respect for the rights of others in accordance with The Bishop’s School Faculty, Staff and Administration Handbook.
