Posting Summary: The Beirne Carter Center at the University of Virginia seeks a Grants and Business Manager. The Grants and Business Manager provides executive grants and business administration support to the Center's faculty. This position manages the daily operation of the Center, primarily in the areas of budget and finance including grants management, human resources, staff supervision, and administrative services. The position is responsible for Center staff supervision and engagement, overseeing the 4.5 FTE Center admins to manage accounts payable, receivables, account reconciliations, equipment management, website development, and lab-related support.
The incumbent will work closely with the Center Director to analyze and synthesize financial performance and develop long-term financial strategies and implement initiatives. The incumbent represents the department in working with various stakeholders across the University and the School of Medicine, working closely with the Dean's office finance and human resources divisions. Additional duties include: providing pre- and post-award leadership guidance to PIs; managing and overseeing all proposal submissions to meet PI necessities, deadlines, and sponsor requirements; overseeing post-award administration in accordance with University policy and procedures and federal, state, and sponsor regulations and prioritize actions as needed; and collaborating with the Office of Sponsored Programs and PIs on the stewardship of grant funds, reporting, account reconciliation, award closeout requirements, and other sponsor requirements.
The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent of eight years full-time professional experience in grants and/or business management may substitute for degree. A minimum of three years of experience is required, including direct experience in both finance or accounting, and grants management and business administration. A minimum of five years or more of relevant experience is preferred, as is experience supervising or leading others.
This is a restricted position and it is contingent upon funding.

Strong understanding and skills in Microsoft Excel and data analytics are required. Knowledge of economic and accounting principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data. 4. Excellent problem solving skills as well as the ability to exercise independent judgment.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: 1. Working knowledge of federal, state and local grant accounting policies, processes and procedures. 2. Working knowledge of regulatory and University compliance policies and procedures at all levels.
