Business Manager — Academy of the Sacred Heart, Saint Charles, MO
The Academy of the Sacred Heart, a member of the Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent coeducational school for children ages 3 through Grade 8 located in historic Saint Charles, MO. Drawing from the strength of the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education, the Academy endeavors to educate and inspire the heart and mind of each child to become a courageous and confident leader who knows and loves God, and who reveals that love by serving others.
The Business Manager reports directly to and works under the supervision of the Head of School. The Business Manager is the primary accounting and financial officer, responsible for maintaining financial integrity at the Academy, including the oversight of accounting, investments, risk management and audit/compliance operations. This position is also responsible for the oversight of human resources functions (payroll, employee benefits), procurement/contracting and maintenance of the Academy’s campus and physical plant. This position has four direct reports; The Accounting Supervisor, two Maintenance and one Housekeeping staff, as well as two indirect reports, both Accounting Clerks. The Business Manager is a member of the Academy Leadership Team and works a full-time, 12-month schedule.
Demonstrates knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices (GAAP)
Develops, implements and oversees accounting, risk management and internal control compliance
Engages, coordinates and provides information/assistance for independent auditors
Prepares, analyzes and presents interim financial statements to Board of Trustees, Finance Committee and Head of School on a regular basis
Coordinates with investment advisor to track performance and ensure compliance with investment policies
Creates and maintains budget workbooks
Assists with long-range financial planning for capital campaigns and projects
Assists with various other compliance, accounting and financial projects as they arise
Ensures the maintenance and integrity of the campus – buildings/equipment/grounds
Manages/Administers/Evaluates accounting system software, Blackbaud Financial Edge
Supervises reconciliation of banking, payroll and other accounting ledgers to the general ledger system, Blackbaud Financial Edge
Creates and/or enters journal entries for analysis and/or routine processing
Analyzes general ledger accounts for trends, budget variances, accurate distributions
Demonstrates knowledge of internal controls with assigned job duties of staff
Translates complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels, including finance and non-finance individuals
Monitors insurance policies for appropriateness and compliance
Manages program for tuition assistance
Coordinates with IT and maintenance to ensure campus security
Demonstrates knowledge of development practices through account tracking
Ensures reconciliation of Raisers Edge to Financial edge, at least quarterly
Demonstrates Proficiency with 10-key calculator and keyboard

Education: Bachelor Degree in Accounting, required. CPA preferred.
Experience: A minimum of five years of non-profit accounting experience, required. Seven to 10 years of accounting and finance experience, preferred. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience, required. Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge, preferred. Human resource and payroll processing experience, preferred. IT knowledge, preferred. Facilities management experience, preferred.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, required. Proficiency with accounting system software, Blackbaud Financial Edge preferred. Knowledge of payroll processing and tuition management software, preferred.
