Reporting to and in partnership with the Director of Advancement and Head Of School, the Director of Development will spearhead development efforts as The Selwyn School, a PreK to 12 independent school, continues to grow. A recent position in the organization, the Director will have the opportunity to both build off of existing data and shape the development and alumni relations functions so that they attract the maximum gift support and strengthen alumni relations for our school.
Develop and execute The Selwyn’s School’s annual fundraising plan, including strategy, tactics and budget.
Leverage the relationships of the Head of School, Advancement Director and others to secure financial support from individuals, foundations and corporations.
Assess the current donor database and related systems, research alternatives and determine the ideal tools to support the development and alumni relations functions. Oversee staff responsible for data entry and gift processing.
Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with major donors and alumni, building a proactive community for the school. Arrange events to build the necessary strength of community across Selwyn alumni and families.
Create and execute a working strategy for a large sustained base of annual individual donors
Overseeing organization of special events and the creation of any tools or materials required to support the mission of this role.
Develop, file and track grant proposals and reports for all foundation and corporate fundraising, including major capital grants to support near-term campus development.
A Bachelors Degree in a field related to this role is required. Masters is a plus.
Five-plus years’ experience in development, ideally within an independent school environment, with a proven track record and relationship expertise.
Proven ability to work effectively surrounded by the energy of an independent school and in a shared office environment.
Able to effectively, actively partner closely with others, to contribute to the ongoing branding effort for the school and build teams to help plan and execute projects and events.
Demonstrated excellence in organizational, managerial, and communication skills, including compelling writing and speaking expertise.
Working knowledge of wealth engine, alumni and donor data bases and ability to leverage these in the effective execution and prioritization of development goals.
Have unimpeachable ethics, honesty, a committed work ethic, respect for all and a deep desire to work on behalf of students and the people who serve them.
