The Chief Communications Officer oversees all activities related to marketing, public relations, and communications for Miss Porter’s School. The Officer serves as a visionary communications/public relations advisor to the Head of School and senior administration, is a member of the Administrative Team, collaborates with other senior administrators and all school offices, and directs the communications staff. The Chief Communications Officer reports to the Head of School.
Serves as the senior administrator with overall responsibility for providing vision and leadership for communications and public relations efforts to promote and advance MPS.
Supervises a communications staff of two and has responsibility for hiring, mentoring and developing the team members.
Plans and implements an integrated marketing and communications strategy that reflects the mission of Miss Porter’s School, raises awareness of the School’s importance nationally and internationally promotes girls’ education, and creates effective messaging across multiple platforms to promote programs and initiatives that differentiate Porter’s.
Works with external partners such as designers, consultants and print operations to meet the needs of the offices of Admission and Alumnae and Development.
Partners with the offices of the Head of School, Academics, Admission, Alumnae and Development, Equity and Inclusion, and Athletics to identify communications opportunities designed to inform and build relationships with potential students, parents, supporters and donors. Supports outreach to key audiences through communications activities that engage the school’s many constituencies.
Develops and implements appropriate email marketing campaigns for the needs of campus partners and maintains oversight over social media platforms.
Develops and enforces brand standards and guidelines across all campus communications platforms.
Collaborates with the Office of Technology for the development and maintenance of the Porter’s website. Ensures that content is consistent, cohesive, timely and relevant throughout the site and reflects institutional messaging and branding.
Is the point person for crisis and emergency communications and works with campus partners to ensure that proper messaging is delivered across all communications platforms. Ensures the crisis plan is updated and all potential spokespeople are briefed on protocol and messaging.
Creates press releases and communicates with local and national media outlets about opportunities for coverage of events and achievements associated with Porter’s.
Manages the placement of print, online, and radio advertisements.
Coordinates all aspects of constituent profiles (student, faculty, alumni, etc.) created for institutional storytelling use in print, video and online publications.
Bachelor’s degree, with advanced degree preferred.
A minimum of five years of professional communications and marketing experience, in a complex communications program. Independent school experience is preferred, but comparable experience in a relevant educational setting will be considered.
A strong commitment to education generally and boarding schools specifically.

Demonstrated ability to work with a team, even when traveling and working remotely.
Ability to interact with all levels of the school community: Head, senior administrators, faculty, staff, trustees, alumnae, volunteers and friends of the school.

Flexibility and appreciation of humor.
Ability to sit, independently stand and walk, including up and down stairs and across campus.
Ability to type, write and view a computer screen for long periods of time.
Light and predictable domestic travel may be required for some activities.
