Rutgers University-Newark, an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise, is seeking a Business Manager III for the Faculty of Arts and Sciences-Newark (FASN) – Dean's Office which will report to the Business Manager II.
The Business Manger III provides a variety of business services including budget, accounting, and grant administration to a portfolio of academic departments and the centers and institutes within them-Departments of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES), Mathematics and Computer Science, and Physics (Departments) and is responsible to ensure all functions performed accurately, thoroughly, within appropriate and relevant deadlines, and in compliance with all applicable policies and processes.
The duties include but are not limited to: - Budget and financial oversight, procurement, appointment and payroll, grant administration and accounting, travel and expense reimbursement, and financial reporting - Works with Departments to communicate, adapt, implement, and enforce budget, accounting, and grant administration policies and procedures - Performs professional work requiring specialized knowledge in budget, accounting, and grant administration, and a solid understanding and application of concepts, theories, principles, practices, regulations, terminology, and applied bases in budgeting, accounting, and grant administration - Analyzes and reviews financial data, prepares financial statements and reports for both internal and external purposes, and resolves a diverse range of problems consistent with an understanding of mission, vision, role and goals of the Departments and FASN and consistent with a comprehensive understanding of accounting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), applicable regulations, and University policies and procedures. Interprets, communicates, and implements policies and practices to meet the needs of diverse client populations - Acts as a key resource to Departments and advisor to the Dean's Office, developing an administrative team to enable the provision of excellent support to the faculty and staff of the Departments - Serves as a conduit for information sharing across Departments, advocates for, and represents Departments' interests - Provides guidance to and assists Department administrators and is their first point of contact for FASN and RU policy implementation and compliance in the areas of budget, accounting, and grant administration. - Works independently, with broadly defined work objectives, and limited review of overall results

Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of general accounting principles and practices.
Also requires a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience in a financial/accounting function, excellent communication skills, and computer literacy.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to establish and maintain continually evolving relationships with a variety of individuals, coordinating multiple activities. - Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management, and financial reports. - Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles. - Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. - Ability to take initiative and independently, plan, organize, coordinate, and perform work in various situations where numerous and diverse demands are involved. - Ability to analyze data, information, and objectives; identify patterns, concerns, issues, problems, needs, tendencies and relationships; formulate logical and objective conclusions; recognize alternatives and their implications; and make sound decisions or recommendations. - Ability to anticipate problems and to address them proactively.
Master’s degree preferred.
Regularly uses all software, systems, and equipment necessary to provide effective and efficient support for budget, financial, and grant administration, including but not limited to: - MS Office Suite - Cornerstone - RAPSS - ECRT - Employment Eligibility Verification I-9 - All systems the University uses for budget, accounting, procurement, proposal submission, grants administration, and the equipment, software, and specialized materials needed to support the effective and efficient performance of this position
