St. Stephen’s Episcopal School seeks a highly seasoned professional with strong leadership and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated track record of success in mission-based fiscal management. The CFO serves as a member of the Administrative Team and has broad responsibilities in finance and accounting, human resources, campus security, legal and risk management, auxiliary services, financial aid committee, and facilities and construction management. The CFO serves as a trustee of the ISAS Group Benefits Trust and has fiduciary responsibilities with the Retirement Plan Committee.
Roles and Responsibilities
The CFO works closely with St. Stephen’s Board of Trustees and serves as a liaison with the Finance, Campus and Audit Committees, as well as the Endowment Corporation. The CFO is responsible for managing the school’s fiscal policies, programs and practices, including the preparation of both the annual operating budget and the long-range strategic financial plan.
The school’s history is rich with traditions and holds a strong commitment to progressive ideals, such as social justice and equity. The CFO needs to learn and understand the unique culture of the school and help ensure the fiscal policies and financial plans support the mission and core values of the school. In addition, the CFO is expected to provide guidance and leadership to ensure policies, practices and procedures continue to advance the long-range financial sustainability of the institution.
The successful candidate will be a visionary and strategic thinker with the ability to establish realistic goals and inspire others under direct supervision to be successful and service-minded.
Qualifications and Experience
Ideal candidates will have an advanced business degree and/or certified public accounting license with a proven track record of successful financial and personnel management. Candidates also should possess expert knowledge of fund accounting and extensive experience in independent school management or a related field. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a necessity.
