Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Business Manager II, Supervisor for the New Brunswick Chancellor’s Office. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor of Finance and Human Resources, the incumbent in this position will be the lead administrator for managing all aspects of the office’s business operations. The Business Manager II, Supervisor also supports the human resource function across RU-New Brunswick.
The Business Manager II, Supervisor works collaboratively with units across the RU-New Brunswick campus in delivering exceptional customer services and provides accurate and timely information. In a fast-paced environment, the incumbent translates business needs and priorities into action through diligent project management and collaborative communications.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Takes charge of all financial planning and implementation of procedures for the effective management of the Chancellor's Office operational budget.
Provides frequent analysis and data to support decisions on personnel expenses, non-personnel purchases, budgetary actions, and operational requirements.
Works to ensure adherence to budget as approved by the Chancellor, acts as a resource and provides expertise for administrative staff in purchasing, human resources, payroll, accounts payable, and budget system procedures, and ensures that transactions are in compliance with university policy.
Develops the annual budget, quarterly forecast, and financial analysis to facilitate key operating and strategic decisions.
Maintains positive relationships with administrative staff within the Chancellor's Office and acts as a resource for preparers within the Chancellor's Office.
Oversees reconciliation of all accounts in the general ledger and projects and implement corrective action to ensure transactions are accurately captured.
Works with central partners to ensure that Chart of Accounts, employee charging instructions, and financial reporting are aligned with organization changes.
Manages the review and approval process for human resource requests and transactions that come to the Chancellor's Office for approval.
Performs other duties and tasks as required to provide for the smooth operational support.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree, preferably in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field
At least five years of related professional experience in a finance or accounting function in a leadership or managerial role of increasing responsibility.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated analytical skills that reflect skill in the interpretation of budgetary, financial, and related management information
Excellent attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy
Excellent computer skills and experience using spreadsheet, charting, and other software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Expertise in the use of pivot tables and other advanced spreadsheet tasks.
Strong writing skills sufficient to draft professional reports and correspondence that are clear and concise
Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, especially with regard to sensitive or confidential financial or organizational matters
Ability to respond flexibly and positively in all circumstances and work calmly under pressure.
Ability and desire to work cooperatively with people from all levels in the university.
Five or more years’ experience in a university setting
Master's degree in areas outlined above
Knowledge of Rutgers University budgeting and accounting procedures strongly preferred.
Experience using software such as Hyperion Financial Management, Oracle General Ledger (Discoverer Reports), Tableau, RIAS, PeopleSoft HCM, PeopleAdmin (ROCS), or similar systems
Oracle Cloud Financial Management, Hyperion Budget & Planning, PeopleSoft, and PeopleAdmin systems
