In this part-time leadership position, the Gann Academy Human Resources Director will drive school-wide efforts to nurture an optimal working environment for our 150+ full time and part-time employees. The successful candidate will be responsible for all human resources functions, promoting the school's culture of collaboration, innovation, and mission-focus. Key functions include recruitment, retention, employee development, performance management, employee relations, benefits, policy development, payroll, legal compliance, compensation planning and more. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Human Resources will act as a hands-on contributor while also supervising a half-time HR administrator and working closely with leaders and employees throughout the school.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop recruitment strategies, showcase Gann as an employer of choice, coach and support hiring managers, oversee creation of appropriate hiring documents, and ensure successful employee orientation and onboarding
Develop training and talent programs to build employee skills and knowledge throughout the organization; provide support and development to supervisors on interviewing skills, employee coaching, performance management, and other HR topics
Optimize benefits programs, including plan selection, employee communication, vendor management and compliance; oversee biweekly payroll and all benefits administration processes
Provide ongoing analysis of compensation practices to ensure that they are both competitive and fair; provide information and coaching of senior leaders to support compensation decisions; track and analyze compensation costs for budgeting and analysis
Develop, support and oversee performance management processes, working closely with educational and administrative leaders and employees throughout the school
Address employee relations issues sensitively, fairly and clearly; provide coaching to both managers and employees; manage employee separation processes as required
Track and analyze employee data on recruitment, retention, satisfaction and related metrics to maximize the impact of HR policies and procedures; compile employee statistics and survey data for association databases
Maintain employee handbook, and build ongoing employee communication
Ensure compliance with federal and state statutes/laws such as FMLA, ADA, Sexual Harassment, OSHA, Worker's Compensation, and Title VII
Supervise, coach and develop the HR administrator
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of a B.A. degree
7+ years of human resources experience;
PHR or SPHR certification preferred
Experience working nimbly and efficiently in a small or medium organization
Experience with HR and payroll systems and budgeting tools
Experience in educational, non-profit or Jewish organizations is highly valued but not required
KNOWLEDGE & SKILL SET REQUIREMENTS
Excellent knowledge and experience of HR practices and laws
A track record of personal productivity and impact, both as a hands-on HR generalist and as an organizational leader; ability to prioritize effectively for maximum impact
A strong record of nurturing talent, working collaboratively and building relationships at all levels of an organization
Demonstrated project management, problem-solving, and people management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience working with data and analytics to inform HR strategies, as well as mathematical skills to support decision-making on issues of compensation, payroll and budgeting
