Position Summary: The Staff Accountant / Financial Aid Officer is responsible for providing support to the business office related to general accounting duties. Additionally, this position is responsible for managing the Financial Aid process for all prospective and returning students providing unbiased, financially sustainable recommendations for aid to qualifying families.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Enter and post all cash receipts.
Reconcile operating cash account with the bank statement on a monthly basis.
Confirm all incoming wire transfers and communicate as necessary.
Prepare and distribute monthly budget reports.
Post monthly statements on-line.
Monitor student stipends in coordination with the Campus Store.
Prepare and/or release wire transfers.
Post monthly drafts after verification for accuracy.
Prepare and enter journal entries.
Develop and manage document retention policy.
Reconcile outside programs financial information.
Verify receipts and deposits for the Campus store
Calculate monthly sales tax and input into state website.
Complete insurance applications.
Issue and reconcile corporate credit cards.
Maintain A/R hard copy file.
Monitor Ohio State Aid program.
Analyze enrollment trends and prepare regular reports related to Admission data and statistics.
Secondary Responsibilities Include:
Manage the financial aid application process with prospective and returning families to include maintaining the SSS financial aid system as well as serving as the primary contact for parents to assist with any questions they may have regarding the submission of financial information in order to determine appropriate funding levels.
Be present at any admission function or event where representation regarding the financial aid process is required.
Interface regularly with the entire Admission team, including participating in the Admission Committee process, to understand the demographics of the student body and to share, as needed, the financial needs of families.
Analyze all financial aid applications and prepare necessary reports and actively participate in the financial aid awarding process keeping in mind the goals of building a well-rounded class of mission appropriate students while also remaining fiscally responsible and sustainable.
Reconcile financial aid awards and ensure accurate enrollment contracts are distributed to families.
Serve as back-up for student billing.
Competencies and Essential Functions:
Demonstrated ability to use basic software applications (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Word)
Experience with integrated software packages, preferably Senior Systems or similar
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Ability to solve problems by collaborating with others
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field preferred
Non-Profit experience preferred
