The Macromolecules Innovation Institute (MII) seeks a Business Manager to oversee all administrative & financial operations for the Institute. A central responsibility will be monitoring operational activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Financial oversight includes identifying processes for improvement and collaborating with the Institute Directors and other affiliated VT departments to implement changes that add value and promote efficient and effective research activities including student support. Responsibilities include assisting with planning, allocation, and monitoring of all Institute funds, drafting the Institute's operating budget each year, overseeing the reconciliation of all funds in the Institute, and monitoring established budgets to ensure spending is on track and proposing adjustments as necessary. This position will act as department human resources representative and assistant to the Director. This position will also include an outreach component to encourage corporate funding and on-campus interviews for students. In addition, the person will lead the implementation of the External Advisory Board, the 18-month technical conference and review, and various short courses.
Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, or related field or significant financial management experience in a leadership role; previous experience working in a financial management and/or accounting position with significant experience interpreting policy and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, and human resource policies and procedures; demonstrated knowledge of current office software such as MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint Access, web browsers, and advanced spreadsheet skills, including manipulation of large data sets; ability to analyze, summarize, and develop financial budgetary reports; ability to work independently and to plan and coordinate business management and administrative support services; strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills; ability to analyze, summarize, and develop financial and budgetary reports; ability to maintain strict confidentiality and to secure documents.
Demonstrated knowledge of the University's financial and human resources policies and procedures and related systems; experience querying financial and human resources data warehouse; supervisory experience
