The Assistant Controller is responsible for the day to day operations and management of the Accounting Department. They must possess a thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
The main responsibility of the Assistant Controller is to ensure the integrity and proper documentation of transactions within the accounting cycle.
Supervise Accounting Department staff, setting clear direction, priorities and performance expectations.
Develop and foster a collaborative accounting team through training and mentoring.
Cover accounting duties as necessary.
Ensure that proper internal controls are in place at all times, and reviewed routinely.
Ensure proper recording of gifts and proper reporting of endowment.
Oversight of fund spending and unitization of income.
Treasury management and review, monitor liquid cash and initiate transfers when necessary.
Summer Portals accounting.
Manage fixed assets including preparing and reconciling asset and depreciation reports.
Assist with annual budget preparation.
Internal monthly budget reporting, monitoring and review with managers.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Ensure all accounts are reconciled.
Perform a monthly analysis of the data to ensure integrity, accuracy and critical review for process improvement.
Liaison for annual audit.
Prepare and book year end entries.
Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related field required.
CPA, CMA or advanced degree in accounting or finance required.CPA preferred.
Supervisory experience required.
Minimum of two years fund accounting experience.
Education industry experience preferred.
Strong organizational skills and able to manage multiple tasks in a timely manner.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Experience with Great Plains Dynamics preferred.
Comfortable multitasking and working independently with flexibility/adaptability.
Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong attention to detail.
Willing to work extended hours when necessary including weekends.
